In the southern USA a cake is the queen, and not the carrot! No, there in the famous Southern Red Velvet cake is the most typical that exists (and certainly the most delicious). I'm not from the south, so I had to try several recipes to find one that I liked a lot. Here I bring you the recipe for Red Velvet cake popular with my friends in the south and north between my family too. Hope you like it as much as them!
American Recipe for Red Velvet Cake
ingredients:
240 g (2 cups) of wheat flour
5 g (1 tsp) baking powder
5 g (1 tsp) baking soda
5 g (1 tsp) salt
30 g (2 tablespoons) of cocoa powder (unsweetened)
400 g (2 cups) sugar
240 ml (1 cup) of sunflower oil
2 eggs
240 ml (1 cup) buttermilk
10 ml (2 tsp) vanilla extract
60 ml red food coloring (optional, but add to this recipe, it will not be red!)
5 ml (1 tsp) white vinegar (or cider vinegar)
½ cup of black coffee (usually made without milk and sugar)
recipe:
Preheat oven to 160 ° C (325 ° F)
In a medium bowl, add the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cocoa powder, and salt, and mix until all the powder counterpart.
In another large bowl, combine sugar and sunflower oil.
We add and beat the eggs, buttermilk, vanilla, and food coloring, until everything is well combined.
Add the coffee and vinegar.
Now, SLOWLY, add wet ingredients to dry ingredients gradually, mixing well after each addition. We stopped just when everything is combined (do not want to mix too!).
Two molds greased and floured round cake, with butter and flour.
Pour batter into two molds.
Bake the cakes in the middle of the oven tray for about 30-40 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean from the center of the cake.
We let it cool in the pan until the mold can touch without getting burned. Now, we passed a knife around the edge of the pie pan and stir over a rajilla to finish cooling.
We cover the cakes with Cream Cheese Frosting (Creamy Cheese Covered) Here you have the link to the carrot cake recipe that has the "frosting"!
